On Wednesday, December 21st we will mark the winter solstice with a service of prayers, reflections and a contemplative labyrinth walk.
The evening begins at 5:30 PM with an opportunity to enter into a mediative space at one of several prayer stations inside the church in the multimedia room. Paper will be available to write down those events or memories which you would like to release as we enter the new solar year. At 6 PM, after a short introduction, we will begin walking the labyrinth located outside the church building and behind the parking lot. A labyrinth is an ancient spiritual tool designed to foster contemplation and spiritual transformation. Walked by contemplatives and lay people alike for centuries, labyrinths are typically formed as a circle with a singular path leading to a center. Labyrinths lead you to a center, designed to increase wisdom and discernment. Labyrinths are cross-cultural and ancient, having been part of human society for more than 4000 years. There will be a fire in the center of the labyrinth and candles along the path. You will be encouraged to take an unlit candle, walk slowly through the labyrinth, release your paper to the central fire and light your candle. On your return you will carry this new light back through the labyrinth and into a new beginning.
Hot drinks will be available inside the church in the gathering space if you would like to warm up after the service. Please join us and be sure to dress warmly! If you are interested in helping with the service, please contact Mother Jan or Deacon Teri.
